The Cold War
The end of the Second World War drew a close to the largest conflict in human history but also witnessed the birth of new tensions. The defeat of Nazi Germany meant that the common enemy which bound the allies together, no longer existed, and the contrasting political and economic systems that governed the East and West, evolved into a Cold War of brinkmanship, political strategy and espionage.
Elizabethan England
The reign of Elizabeth I witnessed some of the most important and dramatic events in English History which helped to shape our nation. This course will take you from the accession of Elizabeth and the challenges she faced in her early reign, including the many plots and assassination attempts, and on to the exploration of the New World under Sir Francis Drake.
Civil Rights in the USA
The campaign for civil rights in the United States is a complex tapestry of racial discrimination, public protest, violent clashes and incremental legislative change. This course focuses on the origins of the movement during the 1950’s and the diabolical views and actions of Southern segregationists, the paths and actions of key figures that led to greater freedoms for black Americans, and the progress that was achieved throughout this period by the mid 1970’s.
